a little bit of help

If there's one thing about my family, we are just filled to the brim with people who like to help out. And Kiersten is no exception.

This fall Kiersten will compete in 109 mile cycling event to take place in Tuscon, Arizona in order to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) as a participant in their Team In Training program. She has been fundraising like mad and of course, I wanted to help her out!

Unfortunately, with the quilting and sewing work I've been doing for the Gloria Gemma Foundation, as well as the millions of other things I pack into my days, I didn't quite have enough time to whip up something grand to donate. Not that that stopped me though. She got something a wee bit smaller.

and then there's my typical table runner photo with my favorite vintage bowl

I used my recently acquired book, Skinny Quilts & Table Runners and the pattern "Rosy Runner" by (of course) Kaffe Fassett and Liza Prior Lucy. I spent an entire afternoon digging through my stash for all of my Kaffe scraps and threw in some Amy Butler and Heather Bailey and other designer pieces to make it look similar to the one in the book. I was going for a more modern look than some of the country or contemporary styles I usually stitch up.

a bit fuzzy but...a close up of quilting done with my embroidery machine

K totally loved it and was so grateful! She'll raffle it off with some other great goodies and will hopefully reach her goal a bit faster. You can follow along with Kiersten here on her blog.

We're all here cheering you on, girl! GO! GO! GO!

PS Yes... this is the piece I was stitching the binding on at the beach last week! :)

  1. Again ... thanks a MILLION, Shellie. Your pictures don't even begin to do it justice. I am going to post the link to this on my FB, too!

On a serious note ... let's face it ... by now, cancer has touched everyone's lives in some way. While hope is good, a cure would be better! I am just doing my small piece.

  2. It looks awesome! Somebody is going to be really lucky!

You go, Kiersten! I've done the TNT marathon training (twice - ug!), and it is hard, hard work. But also a life-changing experience. :-) Hope your ride goes great!
